SHERIFF TOMPKINS’ CAMPAIGN KICKS OFF WITH ROUSING ENDORSEMENT FROM U.S. SENATOR ELIZABETH WARREN

BOSTON - Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins officially kicked off his campaign for reelection to the office last night at the Stockyard Restaurant in Brighton. Over a hundred volunteers, supporters and elected officials from across the district gathered to hear from United States Senator Elizabeth Warren, State Representative Jessica Giannino and Sheriff Tompkins.

Representative Giannino of Revere’s 16th Suffolk District kicked-off the program highlighting Sheriff Tompkins’ work around addiction recovery and reentry services, and his role as a leader in the community beyond the walls of the Suffolk County House of Correction.

“I am proud to support my friend, Sheriff Steve Tompkins, in his reelection campaign for Suffolk County Sheriff,” said Representative Giannino. “Sheriff Tompkins is an asset to the Cities of Revere and Chelsea. He is always available and prepared to assist, ready with solutions no matter what issue may arise. He is a strong leader who works hard to safeguard our community by changing attitudes and rebuilding lives.”

Tompkins then introduced Senator Warren to loud cheers from the crowd. Warren spoke of how Tompkins was one of the first people she went to when she was making a decision about running for office and how they had been friends ever since. However, she clarified that the reason for her support went beyond friendship and respect. Warren stated, “I love people who get stuff done. I am here for Sheriff Tompkins, not just because he deserves reelection, but because he has earned it.” She concluded, “He is a tireless advocate for his workers, his clients and the community.”

Tompkins closed out the program by citing several of the core issues and efforts that he has successfully championed over his eight-plus years of service in this role, speaking about his dedication to the safe care and custody of the men and women entrusted to him and his staff at the Suffolk County House of Correction and Suffolk County Jail by the courts.

“We have made a commitment to reducing recidivism through addiction recovery services, work and life skills training programs, mental health and general health care services, and building partnerships with the agencies and organizations in the community that are important to the long-term success of returning citizens,” stated Sheriff Tompkins. “By prioritizing civic engagement, family health and reunification, education and more, we have helped to transform the lives of the people in our facilities.”
