Earlier today Suzanne Tompkins, (age 54), wife of Suffolk County Sheriff Steve Tompkins passed away. After complications from a stroke, Suzanne passed peacefully surrounded by her beloved husband and family. Suzanne is the loving mother of Christopher and Dayneece Tompkins. The Sheriff is heartbroken and thankful for all of the prayers from people across the Commonwealth. The family respectfully requests privacy during this difficult time.

Suffolk County Sheriff Steven Tompkins said after the press conference that he understands arguments being raised about "people falling into the criminal justice system," but would "rather err on the side of caution" on marijuana policy.

Sheriff Tompkins joined members of the Latino community at a Coffee Hour hosted by the Mayor's Offie, and especially Latino Liaison Alexandra Valdez. Many familiar faces and new members of the Boston community gathered to have some coffee, discuss matters of interest and cheer on as local groups performed.
Suffolk County Sheriff Steven W. Tompkins joined United States Congresswoman Katherine Clark and a gathering of elected officials from across Massachusetts, members of law enforcement, and activists to demand that members of Congress be allowed to debate and vote on pending legislation designed to reduce gun violence.
Before introducing Congresswoman Clark, amidst a sea of signs and supporters, Sheriff Tompkins delivered an impassioned address calling for federal laws to echo Massachusetts gun safety laws.

Sheriff Tompkins attended a wonderful night of music and culture at the opening of the Tito Puente Latin Music Series. Presented by IBA - Inquilinos Boricuas en Accion, Berklee College of Music and the Boston City Parks & Recreation Dept., the Tito Puente Latin Music Series features live outdoor concerts of Latin music Thursday nights in July and August at locations throughout the city. Sheriff Tompkins joined Cape Verdean elected officials across New England as they welcomed President Jorge Carlos Fonseca to Massachusetts. He expressed his gratitude for being invited to join fellow elected officials and community members in attendance, and thanked "the entire Cape Verdean delegation both here and abroad for their tireless commitment to their communities. Obrigado!".
Sheriff Tompkins meet with supporters, friends, and members of the Boston Ward 5 Democratic Committee.
