State Representative for the Second Suffolk District Dan Ryan endorsed Sheriff Tompkins' candidacy to continue serving as Suffolk County Sheriff.
"Sheriff Tompkins and I were both on the ballot in 2014. He showed boundless energy and enthusiasm then he hasn't stopped. As Sheriff, he has shown that you can be tough on crime while being empathetic to the situations that get people into custody," said Rep. Ryan.
"Representative Ryan has been a good friend and a committed community partner," said Sheriff Tompkins. "From his days as a District Representative for Congressman Mike Capuano and his work on substance abuse recovery as a founder of the Charlestown Substance Abuse Coalition, and now as the State Representative for Charlestown and Chelsea, Representative Ryan has worked to improve the lives of others in his community and across the Commonwealth, and I am happy to have his support."
Appointed to the position in 2013, Sheriff Tompkins won election in 2012 as a first-time candidate with over 83% of the vote. As the Sheriff of Suffolk County, Tompkins manages all operations at the Suffolk County House of Correction, the Nashua Street Jail and the Civil Process Division. In addition to providing care, custody and rehabilitative support for inmates and pretrial detainees, Tompkins also oversees a management, security and administrative staff of over 1,000. Sheriff Tompkins holds a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Boston College and a Master's Degree in Public Affairs from the University of Massachusetts.
